FAQ

Do you work with kids?

I do not work with children. I typically see clients who are in high school or older. If you are looking for a provider who does work with younger kids, reach out! I have some referrals I am happy to share with you!

Who do you work with?

I work with clients high school and older. Many of my clients are struggling with anxiety or depression, just feeling "stuck" and unfulfilled. I love working with people to understand more about themselves.. where are these thoughts and feelings coming from and what can we do about it? What do I want my life to look and feel like, and how do I make that happen?

I work with a pretty wide variety of people.. but there are some things that I would refer out to someone who specializes in that area. Examples of this are substance use disorders, active psychosis, and extreme trauma. If ever I believe there is a better fit available for you, I will have a conversation with you about it and help you find a provider who is well trained in the topic.

What should I expect?

Your sessions are about you. You can expect me to share suggestions, teach skills, and gently challenge you. I will expect you to let me know if you need something specific that day, or if something is/is not working for you. We can always switch things up or find something else that is a better fit.

I want you to feel comfortable in your sessions. Thirsty? Bring a drink. Hungry? Snack away. Want to bring your own markers or a journal? Awesome. I will provide tons of different art supplies and you are welcome to bring your own.

To learn more about each session type check out the SERVICES page.

Do you take insurance?

I am not currently on any insurance panels. I would be considered an out-of-network provider. If you are interested in reimbursement from your insurance company, please call the number on the back of your insurance card. If you ask them for information for reimbursement of out-of-network counseling, they should be able to provide you with information specific to your plan.

If you are submitting for reimbursement from the insurance company, let me know! I can provide you with the type of bill they need.

What is expressive arts therapy?

Expressive arts therapy is a way of letting our creative mind explore and aid in healing. It is important to note that you don't have to "be an artist" to participate in expressive arts therapy. Anyone can do it and it takes many forms! Maybe we will work with paint and markers, or we might use clay, collage, sculpture, writing, poetry, music, photography... the list goes on.

The focus of expressive arts is on the process, not the product. Instead of me looking at your finished piece and telling you what your work means, you will tell me. We can explore thoughts and feelings that come up along the way. The best part (besides that it can be really fun) is that there is no right or wrong. Again, it is a process!

Do I have to do art?

Nope! Again, how you use your session time is up to you. I have some clients who never use art in session, others who use it every session, and everything in between.
