I love learning. Exploring different ideas, theories, research, and perspectives is so exciting to me! I hope this page can inspire others to open their minds to new concepts and practices.

HOW EMOTIONS ARE MADE -LISA FELDMAN BARRETT
"An emotion is your brain’s creation of what your bodily sensations mean, in relation to what is going on around you in the world." This book was FASCINATING to me. This is good for people who are interested in brain research and theories. It will challenge your ideas about the way people think and interpret the world. It is very information heavy, so be prepared to think!
Apps
DAYLIO
"You can create a daily entry in two taps – pick mood and activities. We crunch data and display them in stats, charts, and correlations." I recommend this app all the time. I love that you can totally customize what you want to track, and you can use it as a super quick journal. And then it gives you stats! Easy, fast, and free, highly recommend.
GOTTMAN CARD DECKS
"This app has questions you can ask your partner, as well as suggestions for things to do and say." If you are looking for an app to strengthen your relationship or spark conversation with your partner, this is a great one! Deck topics include expressing needs, sex questions, date questions, and many more. There are also 6 decks geared toward parents! So much great content from the Gottman Institute, and totally free!
I AM
Do you want an app to add positivity and encouragement to your day? This could be the one! This app sends you affirmations each day to prompt your positive self-talk. You get to choose what topics your affirmations are about, and you can share them with others. This could be used as an easy way to remember to check in with yourself, whether you want to add some relaxation and positivity before bed, or pump yourself up for a good day.
LASTING
This is an interesting app for couples that has sections on several different topics. There are learning modules that use different therapeutic theories (like Gottman) to teach about a topic, and then give the user prompts to reflect on how this applies to them. Couples can connect their apps to compare answers and reflect together. There are also tools presented to build a healthier relationship!
LIBBY
"With Libby, you can enjoy free ebooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines from your library. All you need is a library card." It is like Audible, only free. Whether you want to learn more about a psych topic, or you love to read for self care.. this app is for you!
CALM
The Calm app has meditations, guided mindfulness practices, and sleep sounds that decrease stress and anxiety, and aid in better sleep and mindfulness.
Podcasts
THERAPY THOUGHTS
The host of this podcast, Tiffany Roe, is a counselor, psychology professor, and business woman who has so much knowledge to share! Tiffany speaks on different topics around mental health and counseling, and also hosts guests who speak about their topic of expertise. She has a way of explaining that is easy to understand and you will walk away with lots of new tools and ideas.
THE MEL ROBBINS PODCAST
I was recently introduced to this podcast and I love it! Please keep in mind, this one is not specifically about mental health, and Mel Robbins is NOT a licensed mental health professional. That being said, she hosts many guests who ARE mental health professionals and has great conversations with them! Very entertaining and informative, just always be aware of who you are listening to and what their training and potential biases are.
LIGHT UP THE COUCH
This podcast is great for mental health professionals looking for a good way to learn more about SO MANY different topics (and you can get CEs through Clearly Clinical for listening!) Each episode features a different speaker who is an expert on their topic. They are super interesting, and at about an hour long, they are a quick way to increase your knowledge and get inspired!
THERAPY FOR BLACK GIRLS
Dr. Joy Harden Bradford is not only intelligent, she is also entertaining! This podcast educates listeners about therapeutic topics with emphasis on the experience of Black women. She also has a great website with tons of resources. Check it out!
